You may think that all is quiet.

You couldn’t be further from the truth, but due to impending activities it wouldn’t be a wise move to go public.

Keep the faith, then when all is revealed you will say “Bloody Hell” we didn’t see that coming!

Come on Lever Park... Spill the beans!
Give us some good news!

Towards the end of the original Planet of the Apes movie, Taylor tells Julius to “Keep them flying… the flags of discontent“.

Well, now you can have your very own Flag of Discontent – Just pop along to our  POSTERS  page and print one off.

There are rumours that things are already starting to happen at the prospective site on Moel Famau.

I don’t know whether it’s true or not (maybe someone can confirm), but it seems that suspiciously straight, dare I say zip wire straight , lines of trees are already being felled in Cwm Bach.  It seems that there is quite a bit of clearance work going on in the valley.  But surely that isn’t supposed to happen until

      a) The planning application is submitted,     and

      b) The planning application is APPROVED!?!

There are also rumours that some ponds – perfect for things like, say, Great Crested Newts – have been filled in with stones recently.

Anything you want to tell us Forestry Commission?

What’s going on over at Lever Park?!?

If anyone thought that it was all over, you are in for a shock. When everything is made public, you will never trust this lot again. And if you thought that Go-Ape was the end of it, you are in for a shock. I encourage all supporters of Lever Park to attend any future meeting, you will be shocked. If there are any legal people out there who value Lever Park and it’s history, then we appeal to you to come forward with your support. We have the ammunition loaded in the gun, but we need a legal person to fire it.

Whatever it is, Go-ape.org wishes you every success!

An excerpt from the Llanferres News & Views free publication…..

The ‘Go Ape’ proposals are exercising the energies of many in your parish and I have heard the worries about narrow roads, noise and poor use of our beautiful AONB.  But I have also heard from people who would welcome the increase in local business.  Most of these are unwilling to stick their heads up above the parapet in case they are blown off, so I am doing so.  At the Community Council meeting I suggested a visit to Grizedale in the South Lakes, similar countryside and similar traffic problems.  This community has been transformed from the extra people coming to the area.  –  Councillor Christine Evans

Yes Councillor, but was it transformed for the better, or for the worse?

I think part of the problem is that a lot of the locals do not want their area transformed – they like it just the way it is.  And so do lots and lots and lots of other people given the numbers that keep coming back to the region year after year.  Yes, some businesses may benefit, but surely others would lose out?  I personally would never pay to stay in any sort of holday accommodation where I get to listen to people screaming until 9 o’clock at night.  It’s just not my idea of relaxation.  And don’t forget, it’s the people that come for a week or two at a time, year after year, who probably bring more money into the local businesses than the thrill seekers who turn up for a three hour screamathon at Go Ape.

Anyway, people of GRIZEDALE… What do you think?  Has your quality of life improved since Go Ape moved in?  Or are you now injecting woodworm into all their trees?  LET US KNOW!

The Battle of the AONB

Moel Famau is the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty under attack, but we must not forget that this Guerrilla War is bigger than just Moel Famau – it is a battle for the survival of the AONB as we know it.  Owain Glyndwr is probably turning in his grave as I type at the mere thought of what Go Ape want to do to his hills.  He started his rebellion from Ruthin in 1400 – The Save Moel Famau Group are starting their rebellion from the same region in 2010.  And if, like I was initially, you are wondering just what all the fuss is about over a couple of zip lines, take a look at the photo below which really is the gorrilla’s danglies!

How Big!?!

This thing is so big it can probably be seen from the International Space Station! It is so high that it will probably need aircraft warning lights to stop the odd Air Force jet, the not so odd light aircraft, or the fairly frequent hot air ballons from getting all tangled up in the zip lines at  twilight.  By the time Go Ape have finished, Moel Famau will probably resemble a very noisy Christmas tree, complete with fairy lights!

And would you spend your hard-earned cash to rent a holiday property or stay in a guest house where all you can hear of an evening are the screamed profanities of hyperactive, adrenalized thrill-seekers?

Bad Business

Another article from the most recent war front – written for Moel Famau, but equally relevant to each and every Geurrilla War currently being fought against Go Ape!

We’ve just come back from a reccy of the Delamere Go Ape. The first thing that struck us is that Delamere is a vast forest, like Grizedale, and that it would be easy to walk there without going anywhere near the Go Ape site – not so if here on Moel Famau!Access is just off a two lane A road, down a short (we assumed Forsetry owned?) track – just two houses and no-one walking along it.  Not so on the Moel Famau lane!  While the site itself did seem reasonably ‘in keeping’ the first sounds we heard, from about 1/4 mile away, were those of the Zip Wire followed by the shouts of the couple people using them.  Multiply that by five, add on another 58 people an hour – horrible.  Chatting to a helpful member of FC staff we asked if there were any problems with the Go Ape site, no, was the answer, the only complaints are about the traffic and the shouting…….  Finally, we thought we’d see how local business’ have fared, after all, that is one of Go Ape’s selling points.  Ah, the Delamere pub has closed down and the little cafe at the station up for sale, not many customers in there either.  Oh, but the Forestry Commission cafe (on site) is buzzing!  The locals must be delighted……….

Trust Go-ape.org…. They’re NOT!!!!

Hands Off Their AONB!

This is what the Save Moel Famau Group have to say about the intrusion into their AONB……….

Go Ape’s intentions for Moel Famau are all the more concerning because of the Country Park’s status as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This is Go Ape’s first foray into an AONB. If they succeed here than it will potentially open the proverbial flood gates, allowing them to explore possibilities in the UK’s 46 other AONBs.

But are Go Ape’s plans compatible with the AONB’s protected status?

Areas of Outstanding National Beauty are considered to be some of the country’s most valuable landscapes and are protected and managed by law to maintain their special character for now and for future generations.

The intended development by Go Ape will not maintain Moel Famau’s special character – it will change it beyond all recognition.

A guide for AONB partnership members has been published by the Countryside Agency and highlights that the primary purpose of AONB designation is to conserve and enhance natural beauty. However, in pursuing the primary purpose account should be taken of the needs of agriculture, forestry, other rural industries and of the economic and social needs of local communities. Particular regard should be paid to promoting sustainable forms of social and economic development that in themselves conserve and enhance the environment. It also clarifies that recreation is not an objective of designation, but the demand for recreation should be met so far as this is consistent with the conservation of natural beauty and the needs of agriculture, forestry and other uses.

Introducing the Go Ape brand of recreation into this protected area is not consistent with the needs of its current usage.

Go Ape have a great product and undoubtedly bring a lot of pleasure to many people. However, we do not believe that such an important AONB is a suitable location for their venture.
